SUMMARY

Kioko Kivandi is an award-winning Journalist, Creative Writer and Media Trainer with over 10 years’ experience in the media industry. He joined Egerton University in 2013 and is currently the Head of the Electronic Media Section. He has been instrumental in transforming the radio to its current modern status. His areas of interest include: Democracy and Governance/Human Rights, Health, Climate Change, Media Viability/Sustainability and Conflict Sensitive Journalism (CSJ). He is also a nature, landscape and wildlife photographer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Literature and Sociology) from Egerton University and a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) from Kenyatta University.

  • 2021: Pitched and won a Media Grant of Ksh. 50,000 on behalf of Egerton Radio from the Media Council of Kenya to report on Covid-19.
  • 2020: Pitched and won a Media Grant of USD 1,000 from the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) to report on Climate Change
  • 2016: Won the Photography Award in the African Climate Change and Enviribmental Reporting Awards (ACCER) by the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA).
  • 2013: Won the radio category in the Tuvuke Initiative Media Awards
  • 2012: Won the radio Good Governance Category in the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA) of the Media Council of Kenya.
  • I have also been a recipient of numerous media grants to report on Health, Land Conclift, etc from various organisations.
