Egerton University 16th Biennial Conference

This will be a blended (virtual and face-to-face sessions) conference. The theme of the conference is Empowering Change: Advancing Sustainable, Inclusive, and Resilient Global Societies through Agriculture, Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.
In these disruptive and uncertain times, societies need to be resilient to cope with unexpected events and foster a successful future through conducting research and developing innovations and technologies to solve problems within global societies.
Underlying this theme is the acknowledgment that Science, Technology and Innovation are leading forces for Agricultural, Environmental, Health, Economic, and Social Transformation. The application of knowledge, skills, and technology is necessary to attain sustainable and inclusive growth.

Before his appointment to State Office, Prof. Abdulrazak served as the Director for the Division for Africa at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under Technical Cooperation. In this role, he facilitated IAEA support to over 50 African countries in the peaceful application of nuclear technology across sectors including human health, agriculture, industry, and energy.
Prior to joining the IAEA, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), where he played a key role in strengthening research regulation and promoting innovation ecosystems.
Prof. Abdulrazak has over 30 years of experience in leadership and academia. He has served as Professor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Extension) at Egerton University and as Vice-Chancellor at Umma University.
He has also held several national and international leadership roles, including Chair of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute, involvement with the African Technology Policy Studies Network, and membership in the Kenya National Economic and Social Council. Additionally, he has served as Commissioner at the African Commission on Nuclear Energy and contributed to institutions such as the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Kenya Medical Research Institute, and the National Cancer Institute.
Prof. Abdulrazak is a Fellow of the International Science Council, The World Academy of Sciences, and the African Academy of Sciences. He is a recipient of national honours including the Presidential awards of MBS and EBS.
He has published extensively in international journals and conference proceedings. He undertook his undergraduate studies at Egerton University, Kenya, and earned his Master of Science and PhD from the University of Aberdeen, UK. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Innovation and Change and completed his postdoctoral studies at Shimane University, Japan.

Dr.Beatrice Inyangala is a distinguished education leader and policy expert currently serving as the Principal Secretary for Higher Education and Research in the Ministry of Education. With extensive experience in university governance, research development, and public policy, she has played a pivotal role in advancing Kenya’s higher education and innovation agenda.
Dr. Inyangala holds a Doctorate in Educational Administration and has served in senior academic and administrative roles within Kenya’s higher education sector. Her career reflects a strong commitment to expanding access to quality education, strengthening research capacity, and promoting partnerships between universities, industry, and government.
