SUMMARY

Dr. Robert King’wara is a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the Department of Accounting, Finance and Management Science in the Faculty of Commerce at Egerton University. His research and teaching interests include corporate finance, financial accounting, investment management and behavioural finance. He has published numerous papers in leading accounting and finance journals. He currently teaches at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Undertaking market surveys and other economic research activities and preparing reports thereon; Provision of advisory services to businesses; Receipt and appraisal of Joint Loan Board loan applications, follow up and recovery of loans; and Co-ordination with relevant Ministries/Departments and other organizations on matters related to trade development.

Achievement

Introduced new financial reporting system for Joint Loans Boards to suit Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee needs.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

As a lecturer and researcher, I pride myself in effective teaching in lectures, seminars, tutorials and in less formal teaching situations, including directing the research of undergraduate and graduate students and advising students, and through involvement in research. This means that I:

  1. Stimulate and challenge the intellectual capacity of students and promote their intellectual and scholarly development;
  2. Communicate effectively;
  3. Develop students’ mastery of a subject area and of the latest developments in the field;
  4. Are accessible to students and engage with their learning progress; and
  5. Encourage students’ sense of inquiry and develop their critical skills and understanding of a subject.
