Egerton University commences COVID-19 vaccination campaign
On Wednesday, 24 March 2021, Egerton University commenced the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, first targeting staff members from the Medical Department and the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Mrs. Mary Njuguna, an Expanded Programme Immunization (EPI) Nurse at Egerton University, said that the vaccination campaign will use a digital immunization records platform that will pre-register those getting the AstraZeneca/Oxford University vaccine and also notify them when to get the second jab.
“The vaccination campaign targets all staff members and will be done in phases beginning with the frontline health workers. The first phase shall target over 100 staff members,” noted Mrs. Njuguna.
“COVID-19 vaccination will be an important additional tool to help stop the pandemic. Wearing masks and social distancing help reduce the chance of being exposed to the virus or spreading it to others, but these measures are not enough. Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools we have available. The COVID-19 vaccine is an additional tool in stopping the effect of the pandemic,” she added.
